Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12196

Founded September 29, 1899, the Veterans of Foreign Wars is a national association of veterans who as soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen served this Nation in wars, campaigns, and expeditions on foreign soil or in hostile waters. The purposes of the association are fraternal, patriotic, historical, charitable, and educational, by assisting worthy comrades, perpetuating the memory and history of our dead, and assisting their surviving spouses and orphans.

Leland VFW will meet on the second Tuesday of each month at Blossoms Restaurant in Magnolia Greens. We will enjoy dinner and fellowship at 5 pm and the meeting starts at 6 pm. For more information contact Gerald Decker at 910-408-1934 or

American Legion Post 68 – Founded in 1919 in Paris, France at the end of WWI. The American Legion has endeavored to assist veterans, their widows and children, and their fellow citizens. The organization includes veterans from WWII to recent conflicts.

Brunswick County Literacy Council, Inc.

Brunswick County Residents

The Brunswick County Literacy Council provides free basic reading/writing and numeracy instruction, along with High School Equivalency (HSE) and GED testing/preparation, and English as a second Language (ESL) instruction to adults in Brunswick County.  Certified trainers prepare local volunteers to tutor our students.

BFA improves the lives of families and individuals in crisis in Brunswick County, who are willing to help themselves, by providing emergency aid. BFA distributes food and provides financial assistance for essential needs. We provide these services by establishing collaborative partnerships and programs with the government, community, faith-based organizations, dedicated volunteers and the generosity of donors.

BHO connects people to preparation, resources, and opportunities that raise the level of economic security, increase financial resiliency, and improve the health and well-being of individuals and communities. Certified Housing Counselors advise those seeking to obtain home ownership, and existing homeowners wanting to save their home or refinance. Homeowners have access to workshops that include avoiding foreclosure, refinancing, maintenance, and weatherization along with do it yourself home improvement projects. They also provide services in financial fitness, credit improvement, money management, support, and training.

  • Reduce the percentage of adults with diabetes to 10% from the current baseline (2014) of 11.4% by 2020.

  • Reduce the percentage of adults who are obese to 27% from the current baseline (2014) of 29% by 2020.

  • Improve County Health Ranking Health Outcomes score to 40 (2019) from current baseline of 44 (2016).

  • Reduce ED readmission of patients with diabetes due to poor management.

We will achieve this vision by bringing together community groups and individuals to improve the health and wellbeing for all those living and working in Brunswick County. Working across all sectors, including healthcare, government, business and industry, human services, community service agencies, educational institutions, the faith community, and the general population, we will share resources and support to prevent disease and promote health.

The Cape Fear Council of Governments plans and administers a variety of federal, state and local programs in Region O covering Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover and Pender Counties.  We work under the direction of a delegation of locally elected officials representing member governments and are proud of our cooperative relationship with both the public and private sectors in our region.  This coordinated effort promotes success through regional partnerships that help meet the needs of our citizens.

The CIS main office is located in Southport and serves the entire Brunswick County area.

Communities In Schools of Brunswick County (CIS) provides programs focusing on dropout prevention and providing students and families with the resources and support needed to be successful in school and community. Five core service areas of CIS include: Action for Success Dropout Prevention Program, 21st Century Community Learning Centers, Parenting Education Programs, Teen Court, and Peer Court.

 The purpose of Celebrate Recovery, a Christian Bible-based approach to recovery, is to fellowship and celebrate God’s healing power in our lives through eight recovery principles based on the Beatitudes in a Christ-centered twelve (12) step program. By working through the principles, we grow spiritually, and we are freed from our hurts, hang-ups, and habits.  We will also work with you to help you find a compatible sponsor and accountability partners to help you on your road to recovery. Celebrate Recovery is the right place to be for anyone struggling with depression, anger, anxiety, stress, alcoholism, drug addiction, or other chemical dependencies, sexual issues or sex addiction, stress, fear, codependence, food addiction, compulsive behavior, and many other hurts, habits, and hang-ups.   Friday night at 7:00 @ The Point Church. Childcare is provided.

The Town of Sandy Creek is a small quiet community located approximately 12.5 miles west of Wilmington, NC. The Town was incorporated in 1988 with the diligence of Ernest E "Buddy" Grainger, A man who envisioned a town with easier access. Consequently, he became the first Mayor of Sandy Creek in September 1988, serving until December 1995. As of the 2009 census the population of Sandy Creek was 318 people, with a growth rate of 29.3% since 2000. Sandy Creek continues to grow without losing it's small hometown feeling.
